Design & Subject Matter
The central scene is based on the famous 1876 oil painting “Der Zitherspieler” (The Zither Player) by legendary Austrian artist Franz Defregger. The body features romantic alpine figures, structural scenery, and winged cherubs framed by elegant Rococo scrollwork

The base includes the traditional German hunter's phrase elegantly wrapped around the bottom scrollwork:“Ein Schatzerl u. ein Edelweiss sind des Jägers Ehrenpreis” (Translated: "A sweetheart and an Edelweiss are the hunter's special prize.")
