Vintage Murano Sommerso Glass Gondola Bowl

Murano Sommerso gondola dish, created in Venice, Italy, during the 1960s or 1970s. The design utilizes the Sommerso (submerged) technique, where layers of contrasting colored glass - in this case, cobalt blue and vibrant red - are encased within a thick, clear glass outer layer.

Form: The "gondola" shape is a classic Murano design often produced as a souvenir or functional piece like an ashtray or centerpiece bowl.

Label and Signature: The gold foil label visible on the right fin of the boat is a traditional indicator of Murano origin. The cursive etching in the center, typically reading "Venezia" (Venice) or a master's name, is common for pieces intended for the tourism market or high-end galleries.

Technique: The layered blue and red colors indicate the use of Sommerso, a hallmark of 20th-century Murano glassmaking. Authentic pieces often show small, natural imperfections like tiny air bubbles or slight asymmetries that prove they were hand-blown rather than mass-produced.

Approx 11.5" W x 4.5" H

Weight 1.5lb
